Halloween

Deals on costumes, candy, decorations, and party supplies. Best prices usually 2-3 weeks before Halloween.
What Halloween Shopping Actually Is
Halloween is not a broad retail sale event. It is a specific-category holiday: costumes, candy, and decorations. The shopping strategy is correspondingly focused, and the timing logic is different from events like Labor Day or Prime Day. There is no single promotional weekend to target. Instead, timing depends on whether you are optimizing for selection or for price -- and in this category, those two goals point in opposite directions.
Timing Your Purchases
September to Mid-October: Buy for Selection
Costumes and decorations are available at full price from September through mid-October, but this is when selection is broadest. Popular costume styles in popular sizes -- kids' costumes in ages 4-8, adult costumes in small and medium -- sell out at Party City, Spirit Halloween, and Amazon as October progresses. If a specific costume is on the list, buying by October 15 protects against finding only odd sizes and slow-moving styles in the final week.
Amazon has the best selection and is most reliable on delivery timing. Spirit Halloween seasonal stores carry items only available during the pre-holiday window. Party City covers mid-range costumes and accessories for group or family themes.
Final Week of October: Mild Discounts, Thinning Stock
The last week before October 31 sometimes produces modest discounts -- 10 to 20 percent -- as retailers try to accelerate unsold inventory. Selection is limited by this point. This window works for last-minute buyers who are flexible on style, but it is not worth waiting for if you have a specific item in mind that might not still be available.
November 1 and After: The Actual Sale
The genuine Halloween sale happens after the holiday. Retailers mark down costumes, decorations, and themed merchandise 50 to 75 percent within 24 to 48 hours of October 31. For shoppers willing to buy for next year -- families with children who will be roughly the same size next October, or households building a decoration collection -- the post-holiday clearance window is when to act. Animated figures, LED light sets, and durable outdoor decor all have multi-year value at clearance prices.
Target, Home Depot, and Party City run the most rapid post-Halloween markdowns. Amazon clears remaining inventory within days. Act within 48 hours of October 31 for the best combination of price and selection.
Candy: Buy Early from Warehouse Clubs
Candy pricing peaks in the final week before Halloween as demand spikes. The best per-unit value on name-brand variety packs is at Costco and Sam's Club two to three weeks before the holiday -- before demand peaks and while variety is at its broadest. Buying candy the week of Halloween at a grocery store or drugstore is the most expensive approach and offers the worst selection. Buy in bulk, buy early.
Electronics and Gaming in October
Any meaningful electronics deals in early-to-mid October are driven by Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, not the Halloween holiday itself. If you are looking for early holiday electronics or gaming deals, the Prime Big Deal Days event page covers that strategy. The Halloween period on its own does not produce electronics deals of note -- the timing just happens to overlap with the broader October sales cycle. The Best Time to Buy Gaming Consoles guide covers gaming-specific timing if that is on the list.
